Adobe announced Creative Suite 2 today. It looks like two of my previous tips are no longer needed with the new version of Photoshop. You can now easily edit objects on multiple layers and paste vector elements into Photoshop from Illustrator.

I have to thank Mehmet Irdel for this one.
I have never been able to figure out how to get a path from Illustrator into Photoshop while keeping it vector. Photoshop always wants to rasterize it…. But my good friend Mehmet found out how.
In Illustrator go to the Edit Menu and select preferences; from there go to the “File Handling & Clipboard” panel. Check off “AICB” in the “Clipboard on Quit” subsection, and then select “Preserve Paths”.
Now when you copy a path from Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop it will remain vector. If anyone knows of another way please let me know.
This not a very original piece, and I’m not especially proud of it but it was the first time I had something where we actually took the photos that were used in the piece. It was a fun but very time-consuming process.
Ben Rogers, Michael Leykin and I did the animation. Mary Beth Montgomery took the photos. Brian Dolan and Mary Beth are the models.

I worked on this with Michael Leykin, Chris Madden and Ben Rogers.
I do a lot of interface design and I always find myself having many text layers. Changing the font, color and size on each layer can be a pain.
But there’s a way to change any text property across multiple text layers at once.
All you have to do is link your text layers together and hold down shift while making the changes. How did I ever live with out this!
The second trick is deleting multiple layers at once. The old (dumb) way of doing it was to drag each layer to the trash icon. If you have more than two layers it can take a while. To delete a group of layers, link the layers you’d like to delete and while holding Apple+Option on the Mac, Control+Alt on the PC, click on the trash icon at the bottom of the layers palette.
I found both of these tips at CreativeBits.
Another great entry at CreativeBits was “The Lesson Clients Need to Learn”

This is a plugin for iTunes, as well as several other MP3 apps, that tracks what music you’re listening to. After a while it tells you which other members have similar taste and it makes recommendations.
This is the link to my page. I’ve found it pretty interesting.
This is the first draft of the intro for the new Micorsoft Across America site which is due to go live March 1st. I still have to make a nicer loader and work on the compression. It looks a little too crunched right now.
